Anatolian Music Therapy

This course examined the topic of therapy with music, which has a significant historical significance, from a historical angle. According to scientific studies, music has an unquestionable significance in communicating human feelings and thoughts. Additionally, good music contributes to the emotional and physical growth of living things, particularly humans. Can the subject be narrowed down to a more precise level and utilized directly in the treatment of diseases, at the very least as an auxiliary and supportive tool, despite the fact that music can stimulate and influence our emotions and thoughts? When we looked further into this issue, we discovered several noteworthy historical practices. We discovered that musical therapy was institutionalized, particularly in Anatolia. We discovered from historical documents that choirs and music days for patients with mental problems were frequently held in hospitals. We noticed that prominent doctors were musicians who frequently included specific musical modes into their procedures. Naturally, we were astonished by this outcome. As we dug deeper into the matter, the more startled we became to learn that some hospitals, or specific areas of hospitals, were built and planned with an emphasis on having good sound transmission throughout the area in order to effectively treat patients using music. Such a focus on music suggests that it is seen as a crucial component of therapy. Specific musical genres are employed for which illnesses has been discussed in our course. Additionally, we tried to include examples from practically every musical genre. As a result, you will hear musical genres that you are unfamiliar with.
